  1. We have had lots of requests for entry forms and expect to be flooded with fables closer to the closing date. I am personally excited to see the fable back! Lets get away from small mindedness, the mundane, the parochial and immerse ourselves into the universality of the human condition.

A dozen or so fables will be selected to be in a compilation titled CONTEMPORARY FABLES VOLUME 1.

which is indicating to me that i obviously intend to have more fable competitions in the future. Perhaps a three monthly event.

The cover design for the first book appeared to me yesterday morning. It will be composed of a picture of a VINTAGE ELECTRIC FAN. I have no idea what it means and how this is related to the content matter. But somewhere in my mind there seems to be an intuitive but subtle connection. The connection is so subtle that I am at pains to understand it myself. The ellusiveness of the metaphor enhances its power. Now I find myself irresistibly drawn to it, especially given my weaknees for the absurd.

I can hardly wait for CONTEMPORARY FABLES VOLUME II

  2. Don't suffer too much, analysing and dissecting your apparitions. Perhaps it symbolises your need for adoration as in the other meaning of fan. And watch out if your vintage fan is one of those large ones, don't look too closely, especially if you are wearing a funny tie. Don't overly sflatter your feeble self.

  3. Oh maybe the connection is 'Vintage Eclectic Fun'. It was the brand of an obscure Hermitage wine of uncertain heritage with curious cuniform enscriptions on the bottle. We became 'curiouser' the more we got through the bottle.

Turned out that we could not work out the symbols even with the Rosetta Stone. The bottle had been rolling about on the hot bits of a furnace picking up random wedge shaped symbols.

  4. Your vintage fan signifies the need for the pure air of days gone by, not polluted by chemicals or ham-ridden media offerings. A contest of fables seeks to recover the magic of the story in its purest and most universally meaningful form. It's a good idea for a cover.
