What's in a name?

We are opening a new place at South Melbourne Market.
Basically it is a bar come kitchen, and people sit around it as if it were an amphitheatre.
It will be open in the day and late into the night.

Beth Courtney commented: "A place where you can have a glass of French Champagne and pinchos or an oyster anytime of day".

Now we need a name for it !

Can you help us?  Give us your suggestions and opinions...

So far, we have:
Claypots Bazaar (suggested by Warren Foster, Renan rejected)
Ishtar (in reference to the epic of Gilgamesh...Harriet liked but Renan rejected)
Renan's (rejected by Michael, Renan's Lawyer)
George's (for no particular reason except to please all the Greek boys out there)
Mustafa's
The Evening Star (in reference to Ishtar by the way of Venus)

What do you think?  Please let us know if you have any new ideas!
Make sure you check out the comments below for other suggestions.

  1. been checking out some seafaring god like peeps and I kinda liked so far Cybele's, Olokun or Porkies 12: Rise of the yeast agents...

Cybele's most ecstatic followers were males who ritually castrated themselves, after which they were given womens clothing and assumed female identities, who were referred to by contemporary commentator Kallimachos in the feminine Gallai , and who other contemporary commetators in ancient Greece and Rome reffered to as Gallos or Galli. Her Priestesses led the people in orgiastic ceremonies with wild music, drumming and dancing and drink. She was associated with the mystery religion concerning her son, Attis, who was castrated and resurrected. The dactyls were part of her retinue. Other followers of Cybele, Phrygian kurbantes or Corybantes expressed her ecstatic and orgiastic cult in music especially drumming, clashing of shields and spears, dancing, singing, shouts, all at night. Atalanta and Hippomenes were turned into lions by Cybele after having sex in one of her temples.

Olokun is experienced in male and female personifications, depending on what region and of West Africa He/She is worshipped. Olokun is personified in several human characteristics; patience, endurance, sternness, observation, meditation, appreciation for history, future visions, and royalty personified. Its characteristics are found and displayed in the depths of the Ocean. Its name means Owner (Olo) of Oceans (Okun).

  9. There is a seafood cafe called the Fish Tank in Brighton. A friend of mine owns it. His name is Bill. Hard working fellow. He got cancer last year. Hope he is over it.
By the way I still like The Evening Star. Came across the phycisist Richard Feynman (who is dead) rave about the orbit of Venus. He was very excited trying to explain how it became the evening star and the morning star alternatingly. I soon want to put a link to Richard. You ve got to hear him talk about the physics in a glass of wine. Superb!

  16. Lucifer's - the name of Venus in her guise as the morning star.

  17. I like it. In fact I like it very much. The only reservation is that we would like claypots to be the Star of the Evening at South Melbourne Market. The name also appeals to me for its exixtentialist connotations. I am writing a play titled Dont Forget the Giraffe which revolves around Lucifer as an avanging, rational, liberating Angel. I could easily call the play LUCIFERS.
By the way who made the suggestion?

  18. Diprotodon's
The largest marsupial ever and like a bloody big wombat but extinct some 45,000 years ago, so co-existed with koories. There are great pics on google images. A paper mache one would make a great centrepiece for an ampitheatre, let alone a fantastic pet.

  19. How about 'The Sixth Circle'?

Dante's city of Dis, where the Heretics are imprisoned.

Of course, it's not the cheeriest of names, I'll agree...
